Björn Bartholdy on computer-games

Over the past years, the computer-games industry saw some radical changes. In quantum leaps, hurdles of possible visuality were taken at ease, while simple interactive sounds morphed into complex soundscape, Hollywood-style. Björn Bartholdy will rewind the game's history from a designer's point of view, draw compositing-connections to classic, non-linear media, than move on to current trends and themes within the genre.

Born in 1965, Björn Bartholdy graduated from Stuttgart's Merz-Academy (1987-1991) as a communications designer and from KHM, Cologne (1992-1994) as a media-designer. In 1994, he founded the cutup, Agency for Media-Design. Mr. Bartholdy served as the agency's managing- and creative director until 2002. Simultaneously , he worked as the head of the Virtual Design department at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, Ludwigsburg from 1999-2002. He is a long-term board member of the Eyes and Ears of Europe, the European Guild of Design, Promotion and Marketing of Audio-Visual Media. Since 2003, Björn Bartholdy is Professor for audio-visual Design at Köln International School of Design. His youngest project is the upbringing of the Cologne Game Lab.
