Kolinski and Rosenkranz on the Gothic3 soundtrack
The PC game Gothic3 sold over 400.000 units. It is one of the top-selling games in the industry. The composer Kai Rosenkranz and music producer Andreas Kolinski tell all about the development of the score and sound design of Gothic3 in their lecture.
Gothic3 was awarded several Deutsche Entwicklerpreise (German Development Awards) in 2006, and, amongst others, won the award in the Best Score category in a PC game.
Kai Rosenkranz is working as an audio supervisor for the game developer Piranha Bytes since 1998. Apart from composition- and sound design assignment, he creates special effects for PC games. He also looks after the huge fan base of the popular role-playing game-series Gothic at Piranha Bytes. Mr. Rosenkranz travels around conventions, writes for trade magazines and contributes to diverse project throughout the game industry as a freelancer. Kai Rosenkranz also takes credits for the score of the first two installments of the Gothic-Triology.
Andreas Kolinski developed and produced in cooperation with sound masters and IMM alumni Jin Choi and Stefan Cahen the score/soundtrack-CD/DVD for Gothic3. He covered marketing/public relation issues as well as, amongst others, the single production. Remixes and for hire-work for EMI-Classics/Cologne, BMG/Munich, Discomania, Edel, Peer Music, Rough Trade and Zomba were produced under his wings in the past. His chillout project "akmusique" leads the scene with over 200 songs. In 2005, Mr. Kolinski was nominated for the German Phono Award for the surround-production "Khilebor", a cooperation with jazz-guitarist Philipp van Endert. Since 2001 Andreas Kolinski is working as an assistant professor for computer-aided music production at the IMM in Duesseldorf.
