Marcus Schmickler on Electronic Music
Marcus Schmickler, born 1968 in Cologne, studied electronic music with Johannes Fritsch and Hans-Ulrich Humpert. Mr. Schmickler has been tightly associated with the internationally reknown label a-Musik. Over the past 10 years, he performed electronic, intrumental, improvised as well as composed pieces. Mr. Schmickler is a member of various bands, including Brüsseler-Platz-10a-Musik, Pluramon and MIMEO. His work with Julee Cruise of David Lynche's Twin Peaks fame in the band Pluramon is reknown as extraordinary popular music. Another collaborateur is British pianist John Tilbury. Recently, he used elements of electronic music in chamber-, choir- and orchestra-
pieces. He also works for hire, composing music for theatre productions, advertising and film.
Mr. Schmickler recieved various awards and tours his projects to stages and festivals all over the globe. He lives and works as a freelance composer in Cologne. In his lecture, Mr. Schmickler will talk about conception, experimenting and use of electronic music.
