Micky Remann on Liquid Sound

Musician Micky Remann previously lived as a "Globaltrottel" ("global-

trottel" is of one his book's title, playing with the English terminus Globe-trotter and the German word "trottel", meaning fool), travelling around the world and living in diverse cultures all around the world. The former German literature-student worked as a writer and journalist, media artist, initiator and curator of particular events such as "1. Underwater concert, Frankfurt" or "Apoldaer World Bell ringing". Additionally, Mr. Remann served as David Copperfield's German voice at the magician's live shows. Above all, Mickey Remann considers himself as a dreamer - a dreamer urging realisation. If you would asked a tourism and marketing expert how to attract 400.000 visitors to a bathing resort in Thuringia, he would most certainly disapprove in shaking his head. But people of Bad Sulza know better: With Liquid Sound by Micky Remann, this vision becomes reality.

Liquid Sound is a computer-navigated multi-media-system mixing sound and light over, and, especially under water. Mr Remann premiered his vision "Liquid Sound" on a truly great scale at "Toskana Therme", Bad Sulza. Beneath an 18 meters-high cupola, visitors float weightless in warm salt water illuminated by softly coloured light, while listening to a rich range of sounds and music only heard under water: meditation jazz, classic, laid-back or experimental music, whale singing or Goethe-poems. At full moon, Liquid Sounds even includes late-night live gigs... Don't expect monotonous esoteric wellness. Even the greatest critics understand the relaxing magic of Mr. Remann's salt-water pool-club experience once they dip in.

Sound waves travel underwater five times faster than in the air in a radius of 360 degrees. The sound is everywhere. You can feel it in your entire body; muscles and bones turn into amplifiers. This phenonemon gives "hearing" a new meaning, in a physiological, physical and psychological way.

In November 2003, Liquid Sounds celebrated its 10th anniversary at "Toskana Therme", Bad Sulza with a Night- and Day-Festival extravanza. It's now a yearly event, attracting water sound artists from all over the world. Adapted by "Toskana Therme", Bad Schandau (near Dresden) adapted the Liquid Sound concept. Other projects in Germany and abroad are currently in planning. If the term "multi-

tasking" wasn't already existent, it had to be invented for Mr. Remann. Last question remaining: What's next for Micky Remann?
