Thomas Velte on Mobile Television Sound

The field of television sound in outside broadcasts, in particular for a centrally organised one-stop provider such as the major German public service television channel ZDF, includes an extremely broad range of duties. Sports, music, theatre, politics and entertainment - only the appropriate sound makes the images from Germany and all around the world a coherent experience for the viewers.

In his talk Thomas Velte gives an insight into the multitude of technical and creative possibilities, opportunities, challenges and tribulations that are part of the profession of a mobile sound engineer.

Thomas Velte has been an audio engineer for ZDF's outside broadcasts since 1992. He predominantly works in the fields of entertainment (e.g. Wetten dass, Lustige Musikanten, Melodien für Millionen, 50 Jahre Rock), sports (e.g. Athletics World Championships, boxing, the Olympics, football) and events (e.g. consecration of Dresden Frauenkirche, Fifa Kick Off Soweto).

In addition to the productions supervised by him, Thomas Velte also works in personnel support and development in ZDF's sound department.
