Institute For Music And Media

The Institute For Music And Media offers students the unique opportunity of combining musical and artistic with scientific and technical interests. It is located at the internationally renowned Robert Schumann School of Music and Media in Düsseldorf. Its diverse range of courses enables independent development and a self-determined professional career.

The two programs, each lasting eight semesters, equip students with artistic and theoretical and technical and practical principles for professional and reflective media work. The new Music and Media program combines study of the most varied media methods with artistic research and musical work at the Robert Schumann School of Music and Media. The artistic-technical program Audio and Video, which has been going for 50 years, links engineering training with artistic study. Both programs require prospective students to pass a musical qualifying examination.

Particular stimuli have resulted from collaborations – for many years IMM has been working, for example, with the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy in Ludwigsburg, the Northeastern University Boston, Escuela Politécnica Superior de Gandia Valencia and the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne.

The Institute is excellently equipped in terms of its technical facilities: three surround studios equipped to the highest technical level, a Digital Video Media laboratory, one video control room and several sound control rooms with attached recording studios and corresponding post-production environments, a sound broadcasting van, a mobile video control unit and an experimental laboratory.
