Typography, image composition, layout

In the 2009 summer semester the course Typography, image composition, layout as part of the basic module Principles of audio-visual design with IMM assistant professor Mariko Takagi deals with the development of an individual corporate design.

How can one's individual function, qualities and characteristics be presented visually? This was the fundamental issue in the development and implementation of the images. The students designed their small corporate design, consisting of a logotype (or even logo) a business card, a letterhead and one additional medium.

Dennis Juengel

"When experimenting with my own initials I stumbled by chance upon the concept of a wide smiling and winking face, with a similar hairstyle to my own. As a service provider in the music sector the idea of designing a simple, personable and attentive layout appealed to me." (Dennis Jüngel)

Florian Breuer

The concept for the corporate design of Florian Breuer is to appear clearly structured on the one hand, on the other hand multi-faceted. The identity is based on the initials of his name - F and B - put together as a logo, and the pattern that results from the repetition of this logo. To achieve a compelling pattern, Florian Breuer constructed the shapes of his letters from rectangles.

Julius Hochstrate

"My logo design and the corporate design should be clear and simple. The logo made up of my initials is based on the Bodoni font and is timeless and serious. It is powerful and linear. The logo has a strong emphasis on the perpendicular, which is picked up in the orientation of the address on the business card and the letterhead. The combination of this with the Futura font in the continuous text results in excitement and a bridge to modernity." (Julius Hochstrate)

Richard Stier

"The logo is a combination of my initials and a Chinese signature stamp. The stamp reflects the colour and a frame, which can be square or round and includes the symbol. In the business card the logo is also located in the bottom right-hand corner.

The business card, which should be striking in its simplicity and appear interesting, only contains the logo and my name on the front side and on the reverse my email address, which can later be replaced by an URL. The work was completed in InDesign and the animation is a gimmick with a stop motion, which was produced in After Effects." (Richard Stier)

Sebastian Bickert

The starting point for the virtual logo were the initials of his name, which, in the initial stages, achieved the most diverse effects depending on the font. The final layout should have a strong symbolic character and at the same time appear serious.
