Hannes Hoelzl
Assistant Professor for Hybrid Sound Composition

Hannes Hoelzl, born 1974, studied Sound&Music Technology in Graz and Utrecht. He now lives in Cologne as a freelance artist, working in many different areas around the central theme of sound: Live computer music, installation, composition, surround sound, development and hacking of musical software and hardware.
He regularly works in teams with other artists in the fields of Jazz and New Music as well as sound and media art. He appears in both regular ensembles (PowerBooks_UnPlugged, earweego, RealtimeResearch, Institut für Sonoaviatik), and also free formations , e.g. with Andres Bosshard, Hans W. Koch, Anthony Moore or Joker Nies.
As well as intensive international concert activity, his installation works have been shown at the Venice Biennale, the manifesta, the ZKM Karlsruhe and in the Millennium Dome in Beijing, to name just a few.
His teaching activities have taken him to numerous academic institutions, from the Wesleyan Academy (CT/USA) and the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo to the Central Conservatoire in Beijing.
Since 2010, Hannes Hoelzl has been Assistant Professor for Hybrid Sound Composition at the Institute For Music And Media of the Robert Schuman School of Music and Media.
