Werner Roth, born 1957, was a professional drummer in numberous jazz and popular music bands. In 1976, he was awarded a price at the Baden-Würtemberg state Jazz contest. He graduated from The Universtiy of Music in Detmold in 1986 as a sound engineer (majoring in percussion).

 

After finishing school, Roth worked as a freelance sound engineer at various broadcasting and radio companies, record companies such as DG or UNITEL, as well as a producer, mixer and composer at his own studio.

 

Mr. Roth has been in charge for production in the past years. Recent work in the classical music field: Trevor Pinnock, Gidon Kremer, Yo Yo Ma, Helmuth Rilling, WPO Karl Böhm (Mix), Stuttgarter Philharmoniker, Gerd Albrecht, Sabine Meyer, etc.

In CD-editing past work includes: Leonard Bernstein, Carlos Kleiber, James Levine, Giuseppe Sinopoli, etc.

In Pop and Rock music: Lenny Kravitz, Jamiroquai, Alanis Morissette, M People, Neneh Cherry, Metallica, Tower of Power, Guano Apes, BAP, Die Fantastischen Vier, Joan Armatrading, Spin Doctors, Freundeskreis, and more.

In Jazz: David Sanborn, Illinois Jacquet, Aziza Mustafa Zadeh, Glenn Miller Orchestra, Lou Donaldson Quartett, Peter Herbolzheimer, Pete York, and more.

In Film and television (score composition and producing): Die Sendung mit der Maus (The Mouse-and-Elephant-Show), Auf den Spuren des Heilige Hundes (Trailing the Holy Dog), Milestones (International Economic Film Award of North-Rhine-Westphalia), and more.

 

Mr. Roth was called to the University of Music Düsseldorf as a Professor in Music Production, specialising in popular music for the sound and video engineering programme. He is founding member of the Institute For Music and Media.
